Stand With Myanmar is an Australian Baptist campaign to advocate, pray for, and raise funds for the people of Myanmar.
LATEST: Myanmar needs humanitarian assistance, now more than ever, as the withdrawal of funding from the United States and other donors puts more strain on existing agencies, and intensifies needs across the entire region.
The imminent withdrawal of critical aid services from the Myanmar-Thailand border will leave 108,000 displaced Myanmar citizens at risk of hunger, untreated illness and deprivation. This follows the 90-day freeze on USAID, which has already forced the closure of hospitals in several camps in Thailand, leaving thousands of people without access to medical care.
Myanmar has been devastated by conflict since the military coup in 2021. This recent funding cut, along with the 7.7 magnitude earthquake on March 28, has added further strain on all humanitarian agencies, and much assistance is needed across the whole region.
An estimated 6.3 million people, living in the areas most affected by the devastating earthquake, are still in great need.
Public infrastructure has been damaged, including roads, bridges and public buildings. The state controls almost all local radio, television, print and online media, and internet use is restricted in the country, which makes it difficult for families to access information.
Ongoing conflict, including aerial bombardments, puts civilians in constant danger, and poor conditions in overcrowded camps have increased the risk of disease.
United in Loving Action
As you may know, throughout our nation we are blessed to have nearly 100 Baptist congregations or churches originating from Myanmar. We’ve been supporting these churches, and communities in their homeland, through prayer, advocacy and donations, for several years throughout the conflict.
We have two Baptist agencies—Baptist World Aid Australia and Baptist Mission Australia—working in partnership with each State Union and Association, to raise funds for people affected in, and on the border, of Myanmar.
